Lucy Liu is an American director, actress, and singer. An attractive and intelligent actor, she is an example to many Asian actors who want to make it big in Hollywood. After appearing in a number of episodes in popular television shows that made her famous, she was cast in the Ally McBeal legal comedy where she was Ling Woo. Her fame exploded into films roles like Shanghai Noon or Charlie's Angels. The actress then gave an amazing performance as Japanese criminal O'Ren ishii, in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Volume 1. In the same period she also played key part in several other box office failures such as Rise: Blood Hunter. In the following years, she started voicing characters from animated films like Kung Fu Panda or Tinker Bell. Mia Mason, in Cashmere Mafia and other small-screen roles did not achieve any recognition. Southland's critically acclaimed police series, Southland and a recurring role helped Liu re-establish her role as an actress. Liu is careful when choosing roles in order to prevent being stereotyped in an industry that is highly competitive. Though she has embraced the roots of her family, she has not permitted it to hinder her artistic abilities.
