Fawn Mckay

Fawn Brodie McKay, born September 15, 1915, was raised in Ogden Utah. Born into the Mormon Church's very first family, Fawn McKay was able to direct her innovative literary talents and remarkable abilities in research to create the incredible psycho-historical biographies of Joseph Smith, published in 1945. The book was titled The Only Man is able to know My History. Its title came from an 1844 funeral speech given by Joseph Smith. In the speech, he stated: "You didn't know me or my heart. I don't know my history. Nobody knows my story. Fawn an older woman, aged 29 wrote: "Since that moment of honesty at least three scores writers have risen to the challenge." There have been attempts to glorify him, others have been accusing him of being a liar. Some even tried an invasive diagnosis. But the problem is the documents do not exist. They're just inconsistent. The task is to distinguish accounts from third-hand plagiarism and to fit Mormons' stories with those of non-Mormons into a mosaic of credible history. The process is thrilling and enlightening. It's a task which Fawn Brodie dedicated herself professionally. Her work in research and writing brought fame throughout the world: Thaddeus Stephens. The Devil Drives (1959) Scourge of the South The Life of Sir Richard Burton (1967) Thomas Jefferson. An Intimate Historiography (1974) and a posthumously Richard Nixon.
