Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946 into a very low-income family, with twelve kids later on, realized early that she could get away from the hardships of her life by using a creative mind. She was writing songs before she could read or write. She got her first guitar at age 8 and started singing at a Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. She recorded her first album during the same year Gold Band Records, a small independent label. While in high school, she established herself in the school community but her ambition was bigger. On the 14th of March, 1964, after her high school graduation the singer moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) and Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Around this time, Porter Wagoner was looking for a new girl singer for the show he had syndicated to television. Parton was hired in 1966. She then was signed to RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in the year 1969. The band split in 1974 when her solo songs like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene beat out the collaborations. Parton wrote I Will Always love You to Wagoner in the aftermath of their breakup. It reached number one. The first time that a song was able to reach No.
